P2 Studio Contest Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Are Pros and Amateurs judged separately?

A: Yes

Q: What do you consider a Pro/Amateur?

A: You will be considered “Professional” if more than 20% of your annual income is from photography and or you have a website that is dedicated to promoting your photographic work.

Q: Who decides if you are considered pro or amateur, I’m not sure what category I fit in?

A: P2 reserves the right to make the final decision on which category you should enter.

Q: Will there be someone who can show me how to use the lights?

A: Yes, we will have one of our studio specialists provide a short tutorial with your first visit. Q: Can the prize money be used in exchange for studio time?

Q: If I am a student but have a website and make 20% of my annual income from photography can I still enter under amateur/student?

A: Yes, as long as you are enrolled in at least 12 credit hours during the competition

Q: Are there limitations on post processing?

A: No, but you will be required to include a PSD file with open layers with your final submission showing your post work.

Q: What kind of lights are going to be available for use and how many can I use?

A: We have White Lightning’s, Alien Bee, JTL’s and Bogen lights, along with an assortment of hot lights including Arrilites and Moles. Each entrant will be provided with 3 studio strobes with modifiers, or up to 3 hot lights. If more than 3 lights are needed they may be rented at $15 per unit with any light modifier available.

Q: Can I shoot Nudes/Fine Art/Glamour? A: Yes, if tastefully done and not pornographic in nature. Please reserve Studio B for privacy.

Can I use a make up artist, hair stylist, wardrobe stylist? A: Yes, please note that in the description of how the image was created.

Q: Are all photo topics judged in the same category, ie; Composite photos in same category as Fashion?

A: There are only two categories, Professional and Amateur. All photo topics will be judged together within those two categories.

Q: Will there be someone who can show me how to use the lights?

A: Yes, we will have one of our studio specialists provide a short tutorial with your first visit. Q: Can the prize money be used in exchange for studio time?

Q: Can my work be controversial?

A: Yes, but P2 reserves the right to limit public display.

Q: Can I use stock images not shot at P2 for photo illustrations/composite images?

A: No, everything within your final image must have been shot at P2 within the month of February.

Q: Can I get more studio time to finish my entry?

A: Yes, we will give entrants a special rate of $40 per 2 hour block.

Q: If I’m working in a team and one of us is amateur and one is pro which category do we enter?

A: If anyone on the team is considered a professional you will be required to enter in the professional category.

Q: I have a point and shoot digital camera can I still enter?

A: Yes, if it has a hot shoe attachment, manual settings and can capture RAW files. If your digital camera does not have these items, you may rent one of our studio cameras with lens for $25 per visit.
